If I could wear anything for the rest of my life, it would most likely be these pants.  Do I say that a lot?

Probably.

You can’t tell, but there’s an elastic waistband, ideal for the girl on the go in my opinion.  This week I’ve been working from the DUMBO offices — and just incase you didn’t know, that stands for Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass, not the name of the flying elephant.  This combination of separates with maximum comfort is my idea of dressing up for work these days, especially since Brooklyn is far less demanding.

Every time I’m back in LA, I always make sure to stop by Urth Caffee — one of my favorite spots I’d frequent with my mom during our occasional shopping trips to Robertson when I’d be home visiting from college. Urth has some of the best teas, and more relevant to today’s post, is where I first discovered matcha.

I hadn’t had matcha since my last visit to LA nearly six months ago, but most recently, my boyfriend purchased a few packets of it that we’ve incorporating into our morning routines. This is the first brand I’ve tried outside of Urth and the latte form, but it tastes close enough.

In my most recent attempt to boost my slow mornings, I made these muffins from scratch, and after a few trials I finally came up with a combination that’s not overly dense or flakey, and more importantly satisfies the palette without losing that bright matcha taste. I made a few different flavors, a batch with blueberries and another with gluten-free chocolate chips. My favorite was definitely the chocolate.

Matcha Muffins
makes 1 dozen

1/2 tbsp organic matcha
2 cups gluten-free flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1/4 cup macadamia oil
1/2 cup granulated sugar
Fresh organic blueberries, optional
Gluten-free chocolate chips, optional
Extra sprinkle of granulated sugar and macadamia oil, to top

Preheat oven at 350. Line muffin tin with muffin cups or cut 6×6 parchment paper squares. In a medium bowl, combine dry ingredients. Then, slowly add in wet ingredients 1/4 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition. Fill muffin tin with mixture about 3/4 of the way. Add either blueberries or chocolate chips (or both). Bake for 15 minutes.

Using a pastry brush, coat the top of each muffin with a layer of oil and sprinkle of granulated sugar. Bake for another 2-3 minutes Let cool for at least 45 minutes.

I spent the majority of my flight back from St. Lucia watching mediocre films, taking full advantage of Jet Blue’s assortment of chips, and folding corners of every page in the latest magazine issues that contained any remotely interesting footwear on it.

Fact of the matter was, I hadn’t spent much time at all thinking about spring and summer footwear prior to my trip despite having planned it months in advance.  I had somehow managed to neglect footwear entirely and convinced myself that whatever I had in my closet would suffice for the remainder of the year.  I was wrong.

I spent most of last week barefoot.  Luckily for me, sandy beaches don’t require much of anything really, but the same can’t be said about New York.  I need my shoes, and now that spring cleaning is underway, the premature pedicure-baring must also commence.

This was one of those last-minute purchases I made before hopping on a plane to the Caribbean that didn’t leave me with buyer’s remorse.  Jumpsuits are the spring/summer equivalent of leather pants in the winter — a uniform of sorts — and this one, with its slinky back detailing and wide-legged component is exactly what craves for my attention.  I wore this variation to a dinner out on Sugar Beach in St.Lucia, and my return to New York prompts me to get a bit more creative with summer separates.  This jumpsuit and a few light layers will work well for the time being, especially as I nurse my vacation hangover.  photos by John

Enjoying a moment with cutoffs and heels while doing what I do best… posing in nooks and crannies throughout the city.  You’ll most likely catch me in this variation of spring separates on most weekends when brunch is a mandatory thing and life as we know decides to keep me preoccupied with a list of neighborhood errands.  I’m still loving this jacket as much as the first day I laid eyes on it, and this necklace I picked up last week hasn’t left my neck.  Finally found something with choker-like qualities, without being choked.
